The Benromach story.
The truth of the matter is that Benromach expresses the original, classic character of Speyside: its beautifully balanced character exudes a luscious, light touch of smoke.
Before the mid 1960s, all the distilleries in Speyside dried and malted their own barley.
Hidden away in remote glens, the distilleries topped up their coal fires with cuts of local peat. It was enough to impart a touch of smoke to the region’s whisky.
James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail announced the opening of their 'centrical and commodious premises' on South Street, Elgin, on 24th May 1895; they would be proud to see their legacy continued by their young fourteen-year-old apprentice, John Urquhart. The fourth generation family-owned and family-managed retail shop, located in the original premises, is the proud ‘Spiritual Home’ of Gordon & MacPhail.
The crowded shelves of our world-renown Whisky Room offers a myriad of premium whisky brands, from single to blended malts, world whiskies, and liqueurs. Our second-to-none selection boasts over 1,000 different whiskies ranging in age and price, from drinking drams to rare and old malts.
In addition to wines, spirits, grocery, and deli offerings, our five-star Visit Scotland attraction stocks a wide and diverse range of sundries accessories perfect for that someone special, including silver hipflasks, quaichs and tankards. Our humidor stores a wide selection of the finest cigar brands from Hunters and Frankau, the UK's leading independent cigar importer.
The Gordon & MacPhail retail shop is equipped with a quality delicatessen. In addition to the largest assortment of the finest cheeses available in North East Scotland, it stocks an extensive range of gourmet meats, homemade quiche, freshly ground coffee, and a varied lunch menu.
